The Sacraments
About
As Catholics, we believe that God is present to us in a special way through the sacraments of the Church. These sacraments nourish and sustain us in pursuit of holiness, as we journey towards Heaven.
The parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart administers the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist and Marriage. Our priests also offer the sacraments of healing: Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick.

Baptism
Baptism is one of the three sacraments of initiation by which we become members of Christ’s Church. The others are Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist.
Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation perfects and strengthens the grace given at Baptism and completes the initiation of the Catholic, enabling them to witness to Christ as His disciple in the world. In it, we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, knowledge, right judgement, understanding, courage, piety and fear of the Lord.
Eucharist
The Holy Eucharist is the great gift by which we experience the ultimate sign of Christ’s presence. The Eucharist is the third sacrament of initiation and the only one of the three that can be received more than once. Frequent reception of Holy Communion helps us to live the Christian life by deepening our relationship with Christ and allowing Him to strengthen us .
Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick is administered normally in situations of immediate prospect of surgery, for those who are of significant age, or those in danger of death.
Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation, or Confession, offers us forgiveness from Jesus. We repent and confess our sins, and are absolved of sin through the ministry of the priest, who acts in the person of Christ.
Holy Orders
It is through the Sacrament of Holy Orders that men are ordained to be priests and deacons for the service of the Church. Our parish is home to a community of Passionist priests and brothers.
Matrimony
The sacrament of Matrimony acknowledges a couple’s commitment to share their life together and to reveal God’s love to themselves and those around them through the witness of their married lives.
