Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God (Col 3:16).
Just as we continue learning and developing our understanding in our jobs, in our studies, in day to day life so we are called to develop our spiritual selves. Many people assume that there is no deeper meaning for their lives, but Catholics are convinced that there is a deeper meaning and that it is expressed in faith in Jesus Christ and celebrated within a community of believers. There is much to explore and consider. As a parish we aim to help those sincerely seeking meaning and aim to develop the faith of those who already profess their belief in Jesus.
Preparation for the Sacraments
Children are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (often referred to as Confession), the Eucharist and Confirmation by teams in the parish and by their parents. Preparation for baptism of infants is offered on request, and normally takes place a few weeks after birth.
Marriage preparation is undertaken by Deacon Barry and a married couple from the parish community. If you are getting married please get in touch with the parish office six months or more before the wedding date.
Exploring the Catholic Faith
A group for those Catholics who have been away from the community for a while, or those looking at joining the Church, meets each Monday evening. This group follow the process outlined in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) after a period of exploration and getting to know each other.
Growing in Faith
Throughout the Year, particularly in Lent and Advent, there are opportunities to discuss themes that are important to Christians and the wider world. Talks have been offered on Scripture, that is the Bible, on letters written by the Pope and the bishops and other topics of interest. The Let's Talk group meet in the Catholic Club from time to time to discuss controversial or topical subjects (keep your eye on the newsletter for the dates and times).
At Our Lady of the Sacred Heart we have not one but two lending libraries - one of books and the other of audio CD's with themes of Catholic and general Christian interest. Copies can be signed out from either library for short or long-term loan.
