Let's Talk: Atheism

LET’S TALK: After our very successful session towards the end of last year discussing the role of women in the Church, we turn now to reflect on ATHEISM.

Do we agree that there seem to be more and more atheists and that they have an increasing voice in society? What are their criticisms of religion and are they valid? In our own experience , how do we react when someone says they do not believe God exists, that the Bible contradicts itself, that religion is a force for evil in the world? Does religion make people better – or can it make them worse? Can someone be good without God?

To discuss these and other views, come along to St Mary’s Catholic Club on Monday 23rd January at 7.00pm. All welcome.

Annual Global Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

Pope Francis has established an annual day of global prayer for creation to be celebrated on 1 September. In inaugurating the day last year he wrote: “The annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation will offer individual believers and communities a fitting opportunity to reaffirm their personal vocation to be stewards of creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and to implore his help for the protection of creation as well as his pardon for the sins committed against the world in which we live.”

Consider coming to the 10am Mass and please ensure you make this intention part of your personal prayer during the day.
